Sperm is formed from cells known as spermatogonia, which divide in mitosis each giving rise to two sperm cells (spermatocytes) with full genetic information. The spermatocytes so formed undergo two series of division (meiosis I & meosis II) each yielding four spermatids each with half the genetic information.
