Hydrogen halides are diatomic inorganic compounds with the formula HX where X is one of the halogens: fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine, or astatine. Hydrogen halides are gases that dissolve in water to give acids which are commonly known as hydrohalic acids.

      Hi Nick,

Simply put, hydrogen halides are compounds made of a hydrogen atom combined with a second atom from any of the group seven members.

      Hi Nick,

Hydrogen halides are gases that dissolve in water to give acids known as hydrohalic acids.

They consist of the six nonmetallic elements that constitute Group 17 of the periodic table. The halogen elements are fluorine (F), chlorine (Cl), bromine (Br), iodine (I), astatine (At), and tennessine (Ts). Their molecules form hydrogen – halide/halogen bonds.
