Lymph nodes are bean-shaped glands, found throughout the body, that store nutrients and fluid, and aid in waste removal. Lymph nodes also produce antibodies to fight off bacteria, viruses, and other damaging elements in the blood. Once the infection is fought, lymph nodes absorb these elements to filter them out of the body. This process temporarily causes the lymph node to swell without pain or you even noticing. If swelling persists please go to the doctor.
Swollen glands (lymph nodes) commonly develop when the body fights infections such as colds, or insect bites, and even small cuts. The glands (lymph nodes) on either side of the neck, under the jaw, or behind the ears commonly swell when you have a cold or sore throat. Most swollen glands or

Most swollen lymph nodes are not cause for concern. They commonly swell when you have a cold or sore throat.
More serious infections may cause the lymph nodes to enlarge and become very firm and painful. Lymph nodes can also swell and become painful after an injury, such as a cut or bite, or when a tumor or infection occurs in the mouth, head, ear or neck.
If the swollen lymph nodes persist for more than 2 weeks, are multiple/large, are painful or you have an infection/wound, it is advisable to see your doctor.
