Tap water may contain bacteria and viruses that can make you sick. To be on the safe side you should boil the water before drinking it. Some special filters can also be bought to filter out small particles and bacteria. Alternatively you can use waterguard to treat the water. You can also get your water tested and see the general quality of your water but this may change according to season because ground water levels change in the rainy season. I suggest you always boil your water before drinking to be on the safe side.
Chlorine is normally added to water by the various water companies (e.g. KIMAWASCO for Kilifi )to kill germs. However, in the process of it being transported through pipes it is still likely for it to get contaminated by disease-causing organisms, including viruses, bacteria, and parasites. It is therefore important to make drinking water safe by boiling, adding disinfectants(like waterguard), or filtering.
