There are many possible causes for fatigue and problems concentrating. Most of the times lifestyle is the cause of it. Proper resting, re-hydration and balanced diet can restore energy and concentration.

However, if the fatigue is severe and persistent I think the patient needs to be seen by a doctor so they can do a thorough examination and tests.

      Hi,

People with fatigue experience constant tiredness or weakness and can be physical, mental or a combination of both.

      This can be due to:
      • Medical conditions – e.g. thyroid disorder, heart disease or diabetes.
      • Lifestyle-related causes – alcohol, drugs, lack of regular exercise, lack of sleep, too much sleep, sleep disturbances, poor diet, injuries
      • Workplace/school stress
      • Emotional problems – e.g. depression , grief(mourning a the loss of a loved one), anxiety and stress.

If you are getting enough sleep, good nutrition and exercising regularly but still find it hard to perform everyday activities, concentrate or be motivated, you are likely to be experiencing fatigue.

If the fatigue persists see your doctor for further management.

There are numerous potential causes of fatigue (physical and mental) as a major complaint. They range from those that cause poor blood supply to the body’s tissues to illnesses that affect metabolism, from infections and inflammatory diseases to those that cause sleep disturbances. Fatigue is also common side effect of many medications. It may be best to be seen by a doctor to determine the actual cause.
