Question: when a young child is born with HIV/Aids and the child is about seven to eight year old and has sex with another person who does not have will he or she contract the virus?
I dont think 7-8 year olds have yet developed an interest in sex, which usually starts during puberty. However, if there is sexual contact there is a risk of HIV transmission.
Hello Elvo,
Great question! Unprotected sex carries with it the risk of HIV infection regardless of the age of those involved or how they got it. I assume you may know of a real situation where this has happened. If so, it is best to see a doctor for help. Depending on how soon one seeks help after unprotected sex, it may be possible to prevent infection even if one was exposed to HIV. Please note though, time is of essence – the earlier you seek help the better the chances of preventing infection.
