  Shyness is another not fully understood subject. I have heard shyness being defined simply as fear of societal judgment. Those that see shyness as a form of fear think it is learned and can be unlearnt. There is also non conclusive research suggesting that shyness is genetical therefore it is something inherited. As to why girls would be more shy, say, than boys, I don’t know the reason and I am not sure any Scientist has looked at the subject.
