      Hi Bindo,

      There are two kinds of twins: identical (monozygotic) and fraternal (digozytic). As the names suggest, monozygotic twins result when one (hence mono) egg splits after fertilisation and develop into two babies with exactly the same genetic information. Digozyttic twins on the other hand result from two (di) eggs being fertilised by two sperm which produce two genetically unique children.
